Abstract

This seminar will provide a technical overview of the main wireless technologies, competing today in the IoT landscape — followed by a deep-dive into LoRa: what is the technology all about? What makes it unique and interesting? What are the use-cases which LoRa is addressing, and which difficulties are affronted when doing so? Finally, the seminar will discuss roadmaps and possible technology evolutions.

About The Speaker

A graduate of Ecole Polytechnique (X95) and Telecom-ParisTech, Nicolas Sornin is currently the technical director of the wireless business unit of SEMTECH. He was one of the founders of the French start-up  Cycleo/Nanoscale which developed the LORA modulation technology. This startup has been acquired by SEMTECH en 2012. Nicolas has been working in the field of wireless communications for 15 years, first in the cellular then the Wifi and Bluetooth space. He holds 30 patents in those fields. For the last 2 years, he has been exclusively working on the development of the Internet of Things various technical aspects: Protocol, Security, low power wireless connectivity and novel applications.
